Hyungchang Lee is a junior undergraduate student majoring in political science at Kyunghee University. While he was taking a North Korean politics class in 2010, North Korea provoked South Korea into a major crisis on the Korean peninsula by sinking the South Korean vessel, Cheonan. After taking the class, he became more interested in inter-Korean relations as well as human rights in North Korea. He is a participant in the WEST program, which enables him to study English and attain valuable internship experience in the U.S. He is also a volunteer worker for One-Brick D.C., which coordinates volunteer work between neighborhood organizations and volunteer workers. At HRNK, he is expected to translate documents and research diverse aspects of human rights issues in North Korea. Based on his experience at small NGOs, he hopes to work for UNHCR(The UN Refugee Agency) in the future.
