Executive Director Greg Scarlatoiu to Testify at Congressional Hearing (10/24)

Committee For Human Rights in North Korea at congressional hearing.

On October 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) will hold a hearing entitled “From Bait to Plate – How Forced Labor in China Taints America’s Seafood Supply Chain” in 2360 Rayburn HOB.

The hearing will be streamed live on the CECC‘s YouTube Channel (link).

HRNK Executive Director Greg Scarlatoiu has been invited to testify at this hearing, where he will address the role of North Korea’s officially dispatched overseas workers in China’s seafood processing industry.

In particular, he will expand on the findings of HRNK’s September 2022 report, North Korean Workers Officially Dispatched to China & Russia, drawing upon open-source research and up-to-date information from sources in the North Korean escapee community.

“U.S. imports of seafood caught or processed with forced labor may be prohibited under the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (Public Law 117-78), the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (Public Law 115-44), and other laws,” according to the CECC. “This hearing will continue the CECC‘s efforts to ensure that PRC goods and products made with forced labor do not enter U.S. markets.”
